For this weeks Throwback Thursday we turn back the clocks to 2002 and look at the boot which recently topped our list of favourite Predators, the adidas Predator Mania. Originally launched in 2002 in the classic Black/Red/White colourway, many stylish colour-ups also followed, including these red editions.
The Predator Mania featured a host of technical innovations and gave even more swerve to the ball than previous models. Every small detail on the Mania from the heel counter to the cushioned adidas logo on the instep made it the ultimate Predator. The upper was made from soft kangaroo leather and featured a distinctive asymmetrical lacing system.
Adidas continued to push the boundaries of tongue design for the Predator Mania, with the introduction of an elasticated strap going under the foot to hold down the tongue. This also pinned in the laces to give the boots an enlarged area for clean striking of the ball.
The sixth predator to be released, the Mania was an out and out classic and one of our favourite boots of all time. Worn by footballing legends such as Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham, the boots saw some pretty magical moments. Remember Beckham smashing home that penalty against Argentina in 2002? He did it in Mania's.
