Are adidas on the verge of adding to their stellar line-up of F50 players? Diego Costa laced up in a blacked-out pair of the new F50 adizero boots last night as Atletico Madrid beat Granada 2-1 to keep pace with league leaders Barcelona. Costa, who scored from the spot, now has twelve for the season, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo as the leagues top scorer.
Having disguised his Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boots for the opening set of La Liga fixtures, we had our suspicions that a boot deal might be on the table for Costa. Having filled the void of Radamel Falcao's departure while forming a strong partnership with David Villa, it looks like adidas have swooped in to make it a double F50 strike-force at Los Rojiblancos.
La Liga has been long dominated by Ronaldo and Messi but this season Diego Costa is sat at the top of La Liga's top scorers table. He may not be as glamorous as Ronaldo and Messi, but he's got his own rugged style of play combining power and skill and he doesn't care who he upsets - he's a defenders nightmare.
Costa kicked off the season in the Volt/Black/Citrus Mercurial Vapor IX before giving them the black-marker treatment, signalling negotiations with adidas may have begun. If Costa is on the verge of joining the three stripes, adidas may be waiting for the launch of the new F50 before announcing their latest signing. The new adizero boots are expected to land next week as part of adidas' new winter 13 collection.
