Continuing to round up the best young "engine" players across Europe, adidas called on Joey Barton to help them select another youngster to send to the global finals in Rio. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but Barton always gives 100% and is the sort of busy box-to-box player no one enjoys playing against.
The on-loan Marseille midfielder arrived at the event carrying a pair of Nitrocharge boots and watched a training session of hopefuls before selecting a lad called Michel to send to Rio for the global finals. Barton complimented Michel's dribbling and fitness and explained “Today I chose Michel because he showed fantastic energy. He showed a great will to win a football match.”
Joey might want to brush up on his acting if he's considering that as an avenue to go down after his football career; his ever so slightly spoon-fed lines from adidas lacked a bit of character but we're not going to tell him! Barton fancies himself as a bit of coach if his infamous tweets are anything to go by and with a couple of coaching badges already to his name Barton knows a thing or two about what it takes to become a pro.
Joey got slated for his comedy French accent in an interview towards the end of last season and there's still a twinge of French in there. Barton's future remains unresolved and he's already expressed his desire to remain in France. As for Michel, we've got no idea what he's talking about but with a ticket to Rio and a pair of Nitrocharges in his kit bag he seems happy enough.
