It was September 2012 when Real Madrid full-back Marcelo decided to hang up his Nike Superfly III boots and move into adidas' rival f50 adizero. This week it's been made official. The Brazilian has finally been unveiled as an adidas man, presented to a crowd of Real Madrid fans at the adidas Santiago Bernabéu store.
The defender signed autographs for fans and posed for pictures with his latest adidas f50 adizero boots. Signing players to a brand can be a lengthy process! The 24-year-old was formly with Nike, but now joins up with Real Madrid club sponsors adidas and team-mates Casillas, Alonso, Di Maria, Coentrão, Benzema, Arbeloa, Callejón and Kaka.
Marcelo starred in the event at the Bernabéu store in which adidas introduced him as one of their new icons. Marcelo also took the opportunity to speak about the Champions League semi-finals: "We're doing well, we are clear that we want to get to this long-awaited final, but we know that Borussia are a very strong team, we drew at the Bernabéu and we know it will be very difficult because they are a great team. We feel good.
The adidas store was decorated to imitate a football dressing room, with football lockers labelled with the names of other Real Madrid adidas players including Arbeloa, Kaka, Benzema, Casillas, Di Maria and Alonso. Marcelo’s was added to them with an Adidas shirt with his name hung on it to illustrate his new partnership with adidas.
