We're in the height of the boot-testing season as we approach the biggest and most exciting months of the year for new football boots. This spring/summer adidas could well be the brand to watch, with a new Predator model and new silo both in the pipeline!
Paris St. Germain midfielder Ezequiel Lavezzi is being lined up as one of the front-men for adidas' expected new silo. Spotted testing a blacked-out prototype model of the boots this week in training, the current adizero wearer is expected to become one of adidas' leading faces for their fourth silo.
Our close-up images of Lavezzi's boots reveal the same features we've come to see over recent months. They boast distinctive differences to the new adididas Predator model - recently seen on the feet of Steven Gerrard. As the Predator continues to mould into a control boot, we're banking on this boot becoming adidas' headline power silo, with a strong focus on 90 minute energy.
The hype surrounding this boot is huge, and understandably so. The boots key feature is the prominent rubber/elastic rubber band which wraps around the midfoot - this is a new technology developed by adidas to harness and release energy in your foot, with the aim of enhancing your ball striking.
A softly quilted forefoot - likely to be a Hybrid touch upper as used on the Predator LZ - can clearly be seen on Lavezzi's black-outs, along with a SprintFrame outsole. We think adidas could also be developing a new mid-foot upper material for the boots, but as we've come to expect there has been no word from adidas surrounding this boot!
Lavezzi isn't the first player to be spotted testing these boots. Way back in July 2012, Borussia Dortmund's Sven Bender used one of the earliest prototype models during pre-season. That time though, adidas made no effort to disguise the mid-foot band. We think this yellow colour could feature on the final model. Other players adidas look to be scouting for this boot include Xabi Alonso and Dani Alves.
