There are certain boots that paved the way for shoes to come until this very day. The adidas World Cup, first introduced in 1978, is known as the last shoe Adi Dassler himself worked on before his death that year. Now we can bring you a closer look at the boot released to celebrate one of footballs most iconic shoes.
These highly restricted collectors edition adidas World Cup 78 football boots celebrated 30 years of the legendary shoe when they were released in 2008. Of the 100 pairs to be available in the UK, we were fortunate enough to bag ourselves one that now takes centre stage in our SoccerBible boot collection. Let us know what you think!
All of the comfort and performance attributes were combined and commemorated in these special 30th anniversary limited edition adidas World Cup football boots. Presented inside a premium leather holdall, adidas boot brush, replacement studs, adidas leather food, cloth and stud key, these have gone down as one of adidas' most premium releases.
The adidas World Cup 78 football boots were released for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina and were originally designed to meet the players demands for the South American climate, and were worn by such star players including Muller and Beckenbauer.
In the 30 plus years that have followed, the high level of quality, craftsmanship and performance has firmly established the adidas World Cup as a true hall-of-famer and legend of the boot world!
With studs angled outwards, which broadened the footprint for added stability, the shoe featured a revolutionary dual-density sole. While the white figure-of-eight section was made of hard synthetic material, the sections in black formed a softer footrest.
Unique and innovative for the time, strength and flexibility was offered by the stud positioning especially modified to give the adidas World Cup added stability, especially when turning. Incorporated with the highest quality Kangaroo leather upper, the adidas World Cup was super-soft and light, giving the ultimate touch and feel for the football.
The combined collectors pack was originally priced at around £200, but would set you back considerably more nowadays if you managed to find a pair for sale – unfortunately ours are staying firmly put! They're a true testament to the original adidas World Cup 78 and a shining example of adidas' class and style.
Let us know how highly you rank the adidas World Cup 78 football boots. Has there ever been a better anniversary release? We think not! Share your thoughts and join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
